Winter is here and now is the time to make sure that your plumbing is in its best shape.

Auckland is fortunate to have fairly mild winters, but there are still a number checks to do in and around your house when it comes to your plumbing.

Fix any Leaks

If you have any leaky pipes, not only are you wasting precious water, but you are also allowing cold outdoor air to seep into your home. With our NZ houses built as they are for warm summers and mild winters, any extra cold air getting inside will quickly be noticed, making it harder to warm the house and keep it warm. The last thing you want is to wake up to a house that is almost as cold inside as it is outdoors! The best remedy is to get a plumber from a reputable company to check your pipes and fix any leaks before winter sets in.

Check your Hot Water Heating

No body wants to be left without hot water, more so in these colder months, preferably not in the middle of a shower! There are prudent checks you can do to make sure that things are working properly ahead of time. Because water is sitting at a colder temperature in the winter, it will take your water heater more time to heat it up. If you want to keep your power bill down during the winter, it’s a good idea to fully flush out your water heater ahead of winter.

Outside your property

We can be so concerned with keeping the plumbing inside of our homes functioning that we neglect the outdoors. Check your spouting – or enlist the services of a professional plumber – to make sure there’s no build up which will end up causing leaks. And take a look at your storm water drains: with all the extra rain we get in Auckland during winter, backed up drains can lead to flooding.
